Who are the Ministers?

And the Lord looked down upon His Creation somewhere around the eighth day and saw that mankind had already screwed up a good thing.

And the Lord said, “Let us find some way for us to help mankind see the error of his ways.” And He pondered it and said, “I’ll have to sleep on it.”

And the sun set and the sun rose – and it was a day later.

And the Lord said, “We shall create righteous individuals. Men & women who will have the innate ability to differentiate between what is in ‘Good Taste’ and what is not.

“We shall take our time with this task, and they shall be born into the world around the same time. They shall meet, discover their amazing ability and combine their powers to point mankind in the ways of Taste that they should go.

“And they shall be called the ‘Ministers of Good Taste’.”

And the sun set, and the sun rose a bunch of other times and centuries passed – until in the 20th century they were born into the world. And the Lord looked down upon His creation and said “It is Good. They will teach my people the difference between Good and Bad Taste.” They followed different paths, but eventually were fated to meet. Once they did, they discovered their like abilities and a beautiful friendship was born. They perused the world together and decided to blog about their experiences so that people everywhere could benefit from their wisdom.

wpid-wp-1411435181395-e1411435262124Raised on a steady diet of comics and Star Trek, J.T. can’t wait for the day when faster-than-light travel is available… maybe then he can keep up with all his thoughts.  With a love for all that is sci-fi and comic nerddom, he hopes that he can give back to the community and inspire someone the way that others have inspired him.  Don’t forget to look to the stars – they’re what’s next.

ESHis youth was spent on the trading room floors of small comic, card, & action figure conventions, eventually leading to a first job at a hobby shop. The Sci-Fi escapes getting him through an abnormal childhood. It’s molded his vision of MoGT projects into always thinking about giving back to those who need that escape. Having covered Cons coast to coast our resident sports/food/social media expert has the pulse of what drives people to love the nerd community. Although he may be at times more Sith Lord than Jedi, we’d surely stand beside him in a Zombie Apocalypse.

I spent my childhood on the dust-covered floors of a Bangladeshy carpet factory, toiling for peanuts and dreaming of the wonderful land of freedom…oh, sorry, wrong blog.  Hey folks.  Thanks for visiting our humble blog.  All the credit (and blame) for this blog goes to JT Riles and ES Norton (unless it’s super successful, then it was all me).  Just kidding, fellas.  In all seriousness, I think this is a great blog and you should stick around, contribute your comments, and tell your friends and family to come visit for some tea and cookies* (*tea and cookies are not included).  Personally, I’ve never really been a comic book guy, but I’ve always appreciated the creativity, dedication and commitment that went into Cos fandom.  That said, I’ve always enjoyed sci-fi flicks, with Star Wars (and for some reason “Stargate”) being up there as one of the faves.  Also, that Star Trek, the one where they needed to save the whales or something was pretty cool (aren’t we always saving the whales?  what are we doing so wrong that they aren’t saved by now?  Seriously?  Pull it together, whales).  I’m also known for tangents.  I don’t really know whether what I do for this blog can be defined with any specificity (probably because it’s that important), but generally I try to contribute some current events, an occasional show/movie review, and whatever words of wisdom/semi-coherent rant I can muster on any given day.
Actor/Actress:  3-way tie between Kevin Spacey, John Cusak and John Goodman/2-way tie between Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry.
Favorite Movie/Show/Book:  Die Hard (because it’s just so bad-ass); Frasier; Crime and Punishment
Favorite Quote:  Creativity is a drug I cannot live without.  (Cecil B. DeMille)
Favorite Food:  Whatever I cook.
Favorite Fictional Character:  Jesus.  Alternatively, Indiana Jones (because secretly I always wanted to be an archaeologist).

shayI grew up in a home not so welcoming of anything geeky. I was the black sheep nerd; I wore the badge proudly. I would work on trucks all day, and race amateur youth motocross, then read Sci-Fi books by flashlight under the blankets in my Darth Vader-clad bedroom all night.
I’m a rambler, talking sometimes just to fill a silence in the room. I will do anything for a laugh, mostly dance. However I have been discouraged to hear that my dancing skills would not even land me a spot in the lowest strip joint. I literally live by the phrase “laughter is the best medicine” because, of course, its true.

I live for Star Wars, Marvel, and Game of Thrones; with an exceedingly high obsession with Elvis Presley, on a random side note. I will gladly make an absolute fool of myself wearing tape on my thick prescription glasses because, well, nerds are hott and we need more of them in the world.

Favorite show: How I Met Your Mother
Favorite quote:  “love is anterior to life, posterior to death, initial of creation, and exponent of breath”. -emily dickinson

An administrative assistant by day and a cosplayer by night and weekend, Chinako has been cosplaying for over 15 years and has won various awards for her efforts. She hopes to one day accomplish every costume on her lengthy “Coming Soon” list. Her favorite cosplay thus far would be a tie between her life-sized Chocobo, Blaze, and her many renditions of Abigail “Fetch” Walker.

Besides helping to shed a positive, fun light on cosplay, Chinako has an unhealthy obsession with pixels, rabbits, and Twitter. She loves to meet new people and hopes to continue to inspire everyone to try cosplay at least once in their lives.
