“Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery” – Charles Caleb Colton
We love Cosplay, unabashedly so, and one of the cool things about hanging out at Cons is hearing why someone enjoys a character or genre. Cosplay is the biggest form of that flattery, and we aim to bring you the stories behind all those people in funky, fun dress up.
CosTalk Featuring Alien Queen Cosplay
Chloe brings an edgy look to her Cosplay, we welcome her story:
MoGT: Who is Alien Queen Cosplay?
AQ: Well AlienQueen has been cosplaying for 4 years now, she just hit 50 cosplays this year! The things I like to cosplay (characters) mostly from games, films, and comics. I’ve also done Lady Gaga, and a few original cosplays.
MoGT: What does cosplay represent for you?
AQ: For me cosplay is an art form that brings everyone together who have the same interests and passions.
MoGT: What are your favorite events to attend? Tell us any good stories…
AQ: My best cons have been Eurogamer, Mcm Expo, and Tokonatsu, Toko was an unusual one, because it was convention camping! Got to play capture the flag, and look at the stars at night, I don’t usually like camping but this was great fun!
MoGT: How did you get your start & who’s your biggest supporter?
AQ: My friends started attending before I did, I loved dressing up anyway, and I loved that stuff anyway, so it only seemed right to try it out back in 2010! I’m all about inspiring others, of course Im always grateful for people who tell me they follow my work.
MoGT: What are you hobbies outside of dressing up?
AQ: When I’m not making cosplays, I’m modelling, or gaming – if that counts as a hobby!
MoGT: How did your costumes come about, did you make them or do you have good shopping tips?
AQ: Nearly all my cosplays are made from scratch, the others were bought, or customized. The process for all my cosplays, is research, looking at materials, working out how I’m going to put something together, then wearing it out to the con 😀
MoGT: Do you have any favorite photographers you’ve worked with? Throw in your favorite places to shoot!
AQ: Yes many, Darren Rowley, Lucas Ambrosio, Sonesh Joshi, these are just a few I’ve had the privilege of working with. I’m mostly in a studio, I feel most comfortable there, and I’ve had a lot of memorable shots from those
MoGT: What movies/comics/shows inspire your Cosplay?
(My) Dream roll would actually be to the lead in a Music video, with all my own visionary and costume designs. I love to dance, and pose, as you can probably tell!
MoGT: Cosplay is not consent is a huge movement Cosplayers are getting behind, what are your thoughts/experiences?
AQ: Personally never had any bad experiences, that’s not to say I know I get looked at like that. Bit of a controversial comment but, when I put a skimpy outfit on, I know I will get looked at like that, I’ve learnt to except that. That’s not to say I accept inappropriate touching or slut shaming.
MoGT: Are there any cosplayers that have inspired you or that you look up to?
AQ: Yes, Kamui is my favourite by far, she gives so much to the community. Her work is really amazing!
