Because turning your com off is always the right move. Tuesday Night Channel Surfing: The Flash – Going Rogue, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Supernatural

The Flash

What’s better than The Flash or Arrow?  A cross-over!  With Felicity!  For all those fanfiction writers out there that need some ship to write about – as if you didn’t have enough already.

On last week’s episode of Arrow, Felicity took a few personal days from her brand new job (don’t you wish you could do that?!) to head to Central City to visit Barry who she heard was out of the coma.

Barry’s been busy in the meantime, most recently stopping some thugs from robbing an armored car.  Instead of making sure that the criminals got arrested though, he had to run one of the drivers to a hospital after they were shot.

Felicity shows up and is introduced to the rest of the STAR Lab’s group… and Iris, who immediately goes into matchmaking mode.  We’ve all been there, right guys?  Girl we like is generally clueless and doesn’t help matters – this is what we call life.

Well, while all that is happening one of the escaped criminals, Leonard Snart, is reorganizing: he’s persistent, and he’s going to steal what he set out to get.  Before he strikes again though he knows he needs something to fight the blur that thwarted him before, so he turns to a weapons dealer/janitor from STAR Labs turned thief.  Unfortunately for Barry, apparently Cisco developed a weapon with the express purpose of stopping him – y’know, just in case – and surprise, surprise!  It was stolen.

Next time Barry gets the call to go out, Leonard is ready for him to show up.  Too bad for Barry – Leonard targets the people around in an attempt to distract Barry, and it works: one man is hit by the special weapon and dies as a result.

Blaming himself, and then Cisco, sends Barry into a bit of a funk; next time he gets called up for action he turns his com of – he just doesn’t want to talk to these guys.  Especially after finding out Cisco created a weapon to stop him: where’s the love, man?  Fortunately for Barry, Felicity is still in town and she teaches these guys a little something about always being a team player and being the support the superhero needs – not the support they think they want.  With a little help from a regular household/office appliance, Cisco and crew show up on the scene just in time to save Barry.  Again though, the Leonard escapes which leads to a cliffhanger of types.

To end it all, Felicity and Barry share a few minutes of girl talk while she’s on the train out of town… don’t worry, authors!  I didn’t forget about you – they kissed once too.  But…  He’s still hung up on Iris, and she still only has eyes for Oliver – so it’s not going anywhere.  Sorry, guys.  But you still have enough for a story or two, so there’s that.

The Flash continues to hit it out of the park with Going Rogue.  Not only did they have the whole crossover go off without a hitch, they also had a villain without superpowers!  Some good developments going on.  This show is well-written, and just light-hearted enough without compromising the show’s content.  If I had one complaint: just give me more Dr. Wells!  I really want to know who he is!

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8pm on CW

Agents

A Fractured House:

With S.H.I.E.L.D. still on the run and Hydra bringing the fight to them every way they can, Coulson and crew cannot afford any more bad news… and then S.H.I.E.L.D. attacks the UN.  At least Hydra agents dressed in S.H.I.E.L.D. garb do, killing a few and setting gears in motion that will turn the whole world against them.

Knowing they can’t handle the additional international pressure, Coulson determines that Agent Ward may have outlived his usefulness to the team.  Focusing instead on his brother, Senator Ward, to help ease his troubles, Coulson takes a gamble and comes out on the winning side.

Plenty of action, intrigue and character development in this episode: there’s a new weapon that’s pretty bad-ass, what really happened between the Ward brothers three, and what’s up with Simmons and Fitz (shippers and fanfiction authors – more fodder for you!)?

We leave S.H.I.E.L.D. in a better position than last week, but with Agent Ward making a break for it.  What will the future hold?  Only time and the Whedon’s can tell.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 9pm PST on ABC

Supernatural

So I’m a big fan of the show, but I didn’t watch last night.  To be fair, I didn’t catch on to this show until last year so I’m still Netflix bingeing my way through the previous seasons: I’m on Season 6 now!  Apparently last night there were werewolves though, so there’s that.  And it has Sam and Dean, and they’re a pretty kick-keister team of bros.  I hope to catch up before the season ends – I just don’t think it will happen.

Supernatural airs Tuesdays at 9pm PST on CW

Chopped

Because we like watching Ted not get to eat any of the food.  Seriously, the poor guy is stuck there without a chance to taste anything – it must suck.  Unless the cooking sucks, or the basket ingredients are terrible.

Tonight’s Chefs:

  • Samia Behaya
  • Lauren Proceszyn
  • Natalia Gaviria
  • Ashlee Saylor

Tonight’s Judges:

  • Maneet Chauhan
  • Marc Murphy
  • Aarón Sanchez

Guy who didn’t get any food… again:

  • Ted Allen

This week’s episode featured four female chefs – a tribute to how far women have come in the profession.  Featured basket items included: banana blossoms, asafoetida, and pepper jelly.  A little cut tripped up one of our chefs in the first round, but there was mighty fine cooking going on.  I won’t say who won – you can find that out OnDemand or on a rerun, suffice to say: it came down to two women.

Chopped airs Tuesdays at 10pm PST on The Food Network

What to watch tonight (10/29):

  • Arrow – 8PM PST, CW.  Duh.  What’s up with Nyssa?  How quickly will Laurel pick up the whole fighting thing?  What is Thea’s (and Malcolm’s) end game?  And will they hunt down Sara’s killer this week?
  • Cutthroat Kitchen – 9PM PST, The Food Network.  Who doesn’t love a cooking competition where the competitors could rival any Munchkin savant.
  • The 100 – 9PM PST, CW.  I’m not this show’s biggest fan, but it has potential.
  • Your favourite basketball team – channels everywhere.  This week kicks off basketball season, so grab a cold brew and watch your favourite team and players as they start the marathon.

Until next time!
