I’m one of those people who love horror/slasher/blood & guts movies, and I don’t think I’m alone when I tell you the way I find them is randomly clicking on a Netflix title and watching the first 10-30 minutes: if it hooks me I let it ride, if it’s less than B-movie worthy it’s on to the next flick.
I’ve been meaning to tell you about a slasher I stumbled upon a few months ago – by now it’s starting to really gain ground as one of those cult-classic types, so if you haven’t seen it yet now is the perfect time.
It casts the Soska twins (Dead Hooker in a Trunk), but focuses on the truly stunning Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps) as Mary, a med student hard-up to pay her bills. As she searches for a way to make a few dollars she’s quickly pulled into a world of underground surgery; I’m not talking Brazilian butt-lifts here, folks, she gets all the freaks.
Imagine American Psycho meets Dr. House all wrapped in a gorgeous brunette scream queen. There’s blood, suspense, and a fair amount of ‘what the heck?’ If you like a few ironic laughs as well, you’ll get them. If you like strong female leads, Isabelle rocks. Over-all this movie is a fun few hours: it’s not all fun and games for Mary, so it keeps you hooked. The Soska sisters even make an interesting appearance.
Go hit up your Netflix, and keep up with the Soska’s on their website: http://www.twistedtwinsproductions.net/main.htm
