Rifftrax Live! Godzilla – a Turn Off Your Phones! recommendation

Last Thursday night, I had one of the funniest cinematic experiences I’ve had in a very long time.  What did I see?  Rifftrax Live! Godzilla (the 1998 version).

Are you familiar with Rifftrax?  For the uninitiated, Rifftrax was formed by Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett, of MST3K fame (What’s MST3K?!? Just… just Google it, or watch some of the episodes on Netflix.  You’re making me sad…).  They started producing audio tracks of themselves riffing on current blockbusters, cheesy sci-fi, obscure independent movies… their back catalog is fairly extensive.  You can buy the audio track and play it while you watch the associated DVD or stream, giving you the MST3K experience in your own living room.

Rifftrax Live! however, is just what it sounds like.  Mostly.  The Rifftrax crew performs live in theater, riffing a movie, cracking jokes and giving it absolutely no mercy.  What’s that, you say?  You can’t make the show because you don’t live near the performance?  No worries, they broadcast it to theaters across the U.S!

Speaking of which, if you are one of the unfortunate people that missed out on watching this cinematic experience, there is still hope!  The Rifftrax crew will be rebroadcasting Rifftrax Live! Godzilla this Tuesday, August 19th.  Check http://www.fathomevents.com/event/riffzilla/buy to see which theaters near you will be showing it, and pick up your tickets before they sell out!

Don’t forget to mark your calendars in October, either.  On October 30th and November 4th, Rifftrax Live! will be riffing Anaconda. A cheesy sci-fi/horror flick starring a giant snake “voiced” by the original Megatron, Owen Wilson, Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube PLUS the Rifftrax crew cracking jokes at their expense? I can’t wait!

Check www.Rifftrax.com for more information and to purchase a riff, and also http://www.hulu.com/companies/rifftrax for more great comedy!
